2023 marks the 140th anniversary of the birth of the influential Swiss conductor Ernest Ansermet. Issued as a companion box to “The Stereo Years” (485 1583). Encompasses recordings from the year of Decca’s birth, in 1929, to 1955. Newly refurbished digital mastering (Chris Bernauer, Mark Obert-Thorn). Includes Ansermet’s landmark 1952 recording of Daphnis et Chloé, published on CD for the first time in genuine mono (without stereo reverb). Also included in this collection is Lyadov’s orchestration of Mussorgsky’s ‘Gopak’ from Sorochintsy Fair. The stereo recording was intended for inclusion on a London (US Decca) stereo LP (CS 6176) but this album was never released and only a test pressing survives, making the bonus stereo publication in this edition a world-premiere release.
