The viola da gamba was the preferred instrument of the Baroque era, but it is not immediately associated with the realm of music-making or contemporary music. This project, entitled "The Waves", sets about presenting a new repertoire for the instrument, from transcription to composition. What if Debussy had written some of his preludes for the melancholic threnodies of the viola da gamba? And, what if a young composer in 2023, by the name of Fabien Touchard, commandeered these old sounds to compose a new work? Robin Pharo makes his instrument the viola da gamba into a means of contemporary expression.
