This book is devoted to Abusir – a pyramid necropolis and at the same time an exciting chapter in the history of Egyptian archaeology. It is not intended as a general account of Egyptian history or as a survey of the history of Egyptology. Instead it concentrates on one of Egypt's many archaeological localities, and explores its remarkable monuments and the historical figures associated with them.

The discoveries made at Abusir by the archaeological expedition of the Czech Institute of Egyptology at Charles University are bringing to light new and hitherto unknown pages of the history of Egypt in the famous era of the pyramid builders. They also represent a valuable contribution to established areas of research and are deepening understanding of the wider historical context of knowledge already gained.
